Aburi, Eastern Region, Ghana

Project Completion Date

September 2025

Method

Borehole Construction

Project Goal

Provide a sustainable, reliable source of clean water for the mission and the surrounding community of approximately 20,000 people.

Catholic Mission Center

In the hillside town of Aburi, the Catholic Mission Center serves as a home and rest stop for clergy and missionaries traveling through Ghana’s Eastern Region. The mission struggled with frequent water shortages and unreliable public supply, disrupting daily life and sanitation.

Acknowledging the project’s urgency, WIHA appointed a local entrepreneur from a faith-based organization to manage and coordinate the initiative, ensuring seamless collaboration among all stakeholders. The borehole now provides a sustainable and dependable source of clean water, allowing the mission to operate smoothly and continue its vital work year-round.

Borehole Drilling and Contruction

Plumbing & Electrical Installations

Safety & Sustainable Protocol

The borehole was drilled and connected to the mission’s existing storage infrastructure, supplying a continuous flow of water to elevated tanks used across the facility

Durable plumbing and electrical installations were completed to guarantee long-term reliability and consistent pressure.

All work was carried out efficiently and safely, providing the mission with an independent water source that supports daily living, sanitation, and hospitality services.

Borehole Drilling & Construction

For years, the community around Aburi faced severe water shortages, affecting school attendance, hygiene, and daily life. WIHA identified the need for a sustainable water source just 20 feet from the municipal assembly. Using a scanning tool, the team identified the optimal drilling site. Borehole drilling commenced, and water was struck after careful site selection. Water storage tanks and electrical wiring for the pump were installed to ensure continuous supply. Once water began flowing, it ran for 3–5 days to ensure cleanliness and safety. Finally, the community—including children, parish members, and local residents—began using the clean water for drinking, washing, and daily needs. The project now supports school attendance, reduces waterborne diseases, and ensures long-term sustainability with community maintenance plans.

Empowering Aburi: Sustainable and Clean Water Solution

The new borehole has transformed water access for the Catholic Mission Center and its surrounding community. Residents and visiting clergy now enjoy uninterrupted access to clean water for cooking, cleaning, and daily use. The improved supply strengthens the mission’s ability to host travelers and continue providing support to local residents.

Beyond the mission itself, this project contributes to better hygiene, health, and overall quality of life — reinforcing WIHA’s commitment to expanding access to safe, reliable water in underserved communities.

WIHA Project Aburi Kumasi

To commemorate the impact, the community named the site WIHA Project Aburi Kumasi — a tribute that will live on for generations

“Water brings life, so you have brought life to us." We’re not the only ones to benefit—generations after us will also come to enjoy this gift.
